The Follow Me tool () leads a face along a path, creating a 3D shape. Follow Me is handy when modeling things that follow a perimeter or an edge, like crown molding or gutters, or when modeling lathed or curved objects, like spindles or bowls.
iPad Input Methods for the Follow Me Tool
In SketchUp for iPad, the Follow Me tool doesn't have any optional tool modes. The Follow Me tool works best when you have pre-selected the face you want to extrude and the path it will follow.
The Follow Me tool can be used with any of SketchUp for iPad's input methods in either Just Draw or Click-Move-Click mode.
Click-Move-Click Mode
Mouse or Trackpad - Click the face you want to extrude and move your cursor up or down along the path. Releasing completes the operation. When you have pre-selected the path, you can automatically extrude a face along that path with a single click.
Pencil or Multitouch - Long press where you want to start, then long press again at the end of the path. When you have pre-selected the path, you can long press or tap to automatically extrude a face along that path.
Just Draw Mode
Pencil - Tap the face you would like to extrude, then draw along the path. When you have pre-selected the path, you can swipe to automatically extrude a face along that path.
Multitouch - Long press on the face you want to extrude, then draw along the path.
Mouse or Trackpad - If you've already selected a face, simply click and hold anywhere on the screen then move your cursor up, down, or side-to-side to extrude a face. Releasing completes the operation. If you haven't pre-selected a face you'll need to make sure you click and hold the desired face.
