We've added a new standalone application - SketchUp Checkup - that allows you to check your computer for compatibility issues with SketchUp. This is only for SketchUp 2017 and newer. By running it, you can discover what problems your computer might encounter when running SketchUp so that you can take steps to correct the situation. This application also generates a file can be given to our Technical Support team who may be able to use it to support you in solving errors/warnings that you are seeing.

Running Checkup
To run Checkup, install the application and choose to "Run SketchUp Checkup" as the last step of the install. Alternatively you can launch Checkup anytime via the “SketchUp Checkup” desktop icon if it was enabled during installation.
Once Checkup has launched, click the Run Checkup button. The application will run tests on your computer to determine if it has what is needed to run SketchUp and will display the results in the “Results” box at the top of the application.
Results and what they mean
Passing resultsFor any tests that pass, Checkup will display the word Success followed by the test that passed. A Success result means that no action needs to be taken on your part.
ErrorsFor any tests that fail, Checkup will display the word Error followed by the test that failed. A failure means that SketchUp might not run or might run poorly. The errors you can see and potential actions you can take to fix them are:

Error: Hardware acceleration is unsupported or has been disabled on your graphics card. SketchUp requires that you use a hardware accelerated card.

If you see this error, updating your graphics card driver would be a good first step in troubleshooting why your card does not support hardware acceleration - often an updated graphics card driver allows your graphics card to become accelerated.

Error: Your [name of video card] graphics card's OpenGL version is
. SketchUp requires a graphics card that supports OpenGL 3.0 or better. SketchUp will not run if your graphics card’s OpenGL version is less than version 3.0. If you see this error, updating your graphics card driver would be a good first step to troubleshoot this error as updated drivers may upgrade the version of OpenGL that your card supports. If updating the drivers does not work, investigate whether your graphics card has the capability of supporting OpenGL version 3.0 or higher. If it does not, you will need to upgrade your graphics card.

Error: Tests that exercise your [name of video card] graphics card's capabilities have failed.
SketchUp will run a series of tests to determine if your graphics card has the capability of supporting the rendering functions SketchUp needs to display SketchUp models. These tests include checks like the compilation of SketchUp’s GLSL shaders and support for OpenGL framebuffer objects. If you see this error, try updating your graphics card driver to see if that helps solve this issue.

Error: Your computer's system RAM is [your RAM]. SketchUp requires 2GB or more of system RAM.
SketchUp requires 2GB or more of system RAM. You may be able to launch SketchUp, but performance/stability will be significantly impacted. We recommend you upgrade your system RAM in order to run SketchUp.

Error: Your operating system does not meet the minimum operating system requirement. SketchUp requires Windows 7 or higher.
SketchUp requires a Windows 7 64-bit operating system or higher. You will not be able to install SketchUp on lower version operating systems. Upgrading your operating system to Windows 7 64-bit or higher will fix this error.

Error: Your "[name of video card]" graphics card has
MB of graphics card memory. SketchUp requires a graphics card that has 256 MB or more of memory. SketchUp requires 256MB or more of graphics card memory. You may be able to launch SketchUp, but performance/stability will be significantly impacted. We recommend you upgrade your graphics card in order to run SketchUp.
Note: We gather data on your graphics card memory by querying Microsoft’s System Information. On some cards, what Microsoft reports is incorrect. This can cause Checkup to issue this error falsely! The presence of this incorrect result will not prevent SketchUp from running. -
Error: System RAM or Windows Version or Graphics Card Memory is missing.
SketchUp will issue the above errors if, after querying your graphics card, it can’t find the information it was looking for.
If you see this error(s), try updating your graphics card driver to see if that helps solve this issue.
Warnings
For any tests that pass, but result in a warning condition, Checkup will display the word Warning followed by the test that caused the warning. A warning means that SketchUpwill run, but it may not run as well as it could. The warnings you can see and potential actions you can take to fix them are as follows:

MB of graphics card memory. SketchUp recommends that your graphics card has 1024 MB or more of RAM. Performance may be significantly impacted. SketchUp recommends 1024MB or more of graphics card RAM. You will likely be able to launch SketchUp, but performance/stability may be significantly impacted. You may want to upgrade your graphics card if you experience performance/ stability problems with SketchUp.

If you see this warning(s), try updating your graphics card driver to see if that helps solve this issue.
If you see any of the above errors or warnings, try to solve the issue and then re-run Checkup to see if your actions were successful.
Extra help
The Checkup application creates a file named “SketchUpLog.sulog” on your desktop. This file, which contains detailed logging information, can be given to our Technical Support team who may be able use it to support you in solving errors/warnings that you are seeing.
